3 Must Haves to Execute Successfully -
When running an online webinar/meeting/conference or learning event make sure to focus your attention in these 3 areas to avoid failure… Awareness - Reviewing the interface prior to the live event creates an air of stability and comfort. Being comfortable with the learning space results in an attitude of confidence. Provide a place where attendees or learners are not overwhelmed with the technical aspects. Ground Rules - Ground rules need to be enforced, ground rules help attendees interpret a guide to identify how to behave appropriately in the course of time with related activities in both the synchronous and asynchronous platforms. Direction - Provide a sense of structure as to where and how your time will be spent, just as you would for a face to face meeting or learning event. Develop and provide a timeline of events that briefly illustrate the agenda with attendees this will add to their sense of security and comfort. By Angel Ross Did you know many companies and government agencies DON'T have their own training department? In fact, most companies choose to outsource training, design, technical support, content development, and subject matter experts instead of hiring their own. For some companies, outsourcing employee training and development makes both financial and business sense. First and foremost, it's much cheaper to have an outside vendor create training than to hire a full time instructional designer(s), developers, technical guru's to accomplish tasks. Therefore, if a company only requires occasional training, it makes much more sense to hire an external instructional design/training company. Many outsource training to supplement their internal resources. For instance, while an internal training department may be very good at instructional design, it may need assistance in the area of development or production. Also, some organizations do not have enough experience in the area they need training in and, therefore, need to rely on outside resources. For example, if the organization wants to move towards agile project management, but no one has any expertise in the area, outsourcing may be the best way to go. Another example when outsourcing is your best bet is if your organization is starting to use a new tool that no one in the company knows yet. Since no one in house can help with training, the two best ways to learn the tool are to either bring a professional training company in house or purchase an already existing training package. All in all, each organization should make its own decision as to what is best for its budget and needs. However, it is important to understand that, just like everything else, outsourcing has its pluses and minus; therefore, prior to making the decision to outsource your training initiatives, consider determining what the return on investment (ROI) is. Simplify Specify one or two font types, borders, textures, and layouts and then use them throughout the courses in order to create a streamlined and organized learner experience. Try to keep in mind the K.I.S.S. theory. "Keep It Simple, Silly". Harmony Create order by paying attention to "focal points" and considering the "relationship" between each element. This will help reduce clutter and make your courses more cohesive and flow with harmony. Purpose Stunning and visually striking fonts may help to bring innovation and creativity into your course design, but can learners read it? Make sure text, images, even audio support your message and provide purpose. Balance Learners will be digesting content from left to right, make sure that you include the most pertinent information on the left hand side of the screen and then balance the page with images on the right. Images and audio are meant to support the learners absorption so make sure to balance elements from a learners perspective. Knowledge Nuggets - Small, targeted, bite-sized learning
